In a recent unveiling, Edward & Clara Memorial Clinic (ECMC) opened its second facility in Okota, Lagos, a pivotal move aimed at tackling Nigeria’s healthcare challenges. This new walk-in clinic, situated on the first floor of SuperSavers Mall on Ago Palace Way, intends to improve access to quality and affordable healthcare at the grassroots level.
During an interview, Dr. Augustina Anetor, the Managing Director of ECMC, articulated that this walk-in clinic specifically addresses the urgent issues plaguing the Nigerian healthcare system, such as limited access, inadequate infrastructure, and soaring service costs. Having trained as a trauma and orthopedic surgeon in the United Kingdom, Dr. Anetor returned to Nigeria to heed the federal government’s call for healthcare professionals abroad to contribute to the advancement of local healthcare.
“This clinic represents more than a medical facility; it’s an innovative initiative aimed at setting new standards in preventive healthcare while empowering communities nationwide to adopt healthier lifestyles,” Dr. Anetor emphasized.
The Okota facility marks ECMC’s second location in Lagos, following the clinic’s inaugural opening at SuperSavers Mall in Osapa, Lekki, in April 2023. Dr. Anetor noted that situating the clinic within local communities makes it easier for individuals to access urgent medical care. Offered services include clinical consultations, laboratory tests, treatment and management of minor injuries and fractures, health screenings, and counseling.
Dr. Anetor also discussed ECMC’s commitment to harnessing technology and fostering partnerships with healthcare professionals and institutions both locally and internationally. This endeavor aims to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare solutions for communities, especially in Okota, Amuwo Odofin, and Lekki.
She invited regular shoppers at SuperSavers Mall and Okota residents to benefit from a one-month free registration and consultation offer, encouraging families to visit the clinic and gain insight into their health status.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Lucky Egede, the chairman, emphasized the importance of establishing ECMC as a significant step towards nation-building. He remarked, “Nigeria can only achieve meaningful progress when we all contribute within our respective sectors across various regions.” As the chairman of the SuperSavers supermarket retail chain in Nigeria, Mr. Egede stressed the vital role of a healthy community in fostering national progress, urging local shoppers and residents to take advantage of ECMC’s services to enhance their family’s health. “When you are healthy, you are wearing a crown that only the sick can see,” he insisted.
Furthermore, representatives from several residential estates and communities in Okota expressed their excitement about the new walk-in clinic, noting that it effectively alleviates the challenges of distance and access to quality private primary healthcare in the area.
