In a recent interview, Huang Guangnan, a seasoned Taiwanese businessman, shared insights from his 30 years of experience in Mainland China, emphasizing the wealth of opportunities and rapid advancements he has encountered. “Throughout my journey, I have delved into various industries and discovered the boundless business potential here,” Huang stated, noting his role as the Executive Assistant to the General Manager at Yuanzhu Metal Products (Zhangzhou) Co., Ltd. in Fujian Province.
When asked about the key factors behind his success, Huang highlighted the conducive business environment in the old town industrial park of Zhangpu County. He mentioned that the area has attracted many Taiwanese companies, particularly those relocating from Shenzhen, which manufacture bicycle components like frames, pedals, locks, and bells. “Zhangpu has become a hub for Taiwanese enterprises due to its exceptional business climate, supportive policies for Taiwanese individuals, and strategic geographic advantages,” he explained.
Huang’s entrepreneurial journey began in 1994 when he first arrived in Xiamen, seizing opportunities in the stone export market. This path led him to establish a packaging factory, venture into engine sales, enter the bridal industry, and eventually become a professional manager. “The reform and opening-up policy in China has fostered an incredibly appealing environment for Taiwanese entrepreneurs, paving the way for fruitful cross-strait development,” he noted, acknowledging the significant advantages many Taiwanese have gained by starting businesses on the mainland.
Discussing the comprehensive policies that support Taiwanese interests, Huang expressed hope for an increase in collaboration between Taiwan and Mainland China, especially in areas such as talent and technology exchanges. He praised the entrepreneurial spirit and resilience of the local Fujian business community, highlighting that Taiwanese and Fujianese businesses have thrived together over the past three decades, resulting in numerous success stories.
Huang encouraged more collaboration between Fujian and Taiwan in various sectors, including commerce, education, culture, and healthcare. “I hope young Taiwanese will come to the mainland to experience the rapid developments firsthand and take advantage of the myriad opportunities available.”
Similarly, Wei Yuchun, a manager at Xinyuanfu Metal Products (Zhangzhou) Co., Ltd. in the same industrial park, shared his own experience of transitioning to Mainland China over the past 15 years. Originally from Changhua, Taiwan, he is now well-integrated into the local community and enjoys a comfortable life with his Taiwanese wife and children. “I’ve adapted to life on the mainland; it’s convenient and very livable,” Wei remarked, reflecting on his decision to follow in the footsteps of his father and brother who had previously worked in China.
“At 39, I work at a Taiwanese company and also run a successful bubble tea business,” he recounted, highlighting the vibrant network of Taiwanese entrepreneurs in Zhangpu with whom he connects. Wei expressed gratitude for the numerous advantages and preferential policies afforded to Taiwanese residents, noting the friendly and attentive atmosphere found on the mainland.
“I invite young Taiwanese to come and explore the opportunities and the welcoming environment that Mainland China has to offer,” Wei concluded, sharing the positive experiences he and his family have enjoyed in their new home.
