On October 19, the “Walking in the Light” special exhibition, centered around “Chen Jiageng and the New China,” opened at the Chen Jiageng Memorial Hall in Jimei, Xiamen.

The opening ceremony drew a distinguished crowd, including former Chairman of the China Overseas Friendship Association Lin Zhaoshu, and Chen Jiageng’s eldest grandson, Chen Liren. Approximately 100 attendees were present, including officials from Fujian Province, Xiamen City, and Jimei District, representatives of Chen Jiageng’s descendants, institutions and schools founded by him, as well as representatives from the China Overseas Chinese History Museum and the Yan’an Revolutionary Memorial Hall, along with Jimei alumni and experts from both domestic and overseas.

The exhibition highlights Chen Jiageng’s unwavering efforts in establishing, building, and developing the new China, all through his unique perspective that illustrates the country’s rapid progress and flourishing landscape.

The exhibition consists of three sections. The first, “A Bright Future for the Motherland,” draws from the historical backdrop of Chen Jiageng’s visit to Yan’an, vividly showcasing the new atmosphere of that era and the inevitability of his support for the Chinese Communist Party. The second section, “A Strong New China Has Emerged,” outlines how, following the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, Chen Jiageng actively participated in various political and economic initiatives, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s prosperity. The third section, “The Great Construction of the Motherland,” explores achievements in industry, culture, and livelihoods, reflecting Chen Jiageng’s dedication to advocating for the nation’s needs, conducting thorough investigations, consistently proposing initiatives, and actively practicing his beliefs.

The exhibition features a total of 45 artifacts, including the Uyghur attire worn by Chen Jiageng during the establishment conference of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, which is being displayed publicly for the first time. Additionally, an innovative “folding wall” showcases the achievements of different historical periods in New China’s construction, providing visitors with an immersive visual experience.

Spearheaded by the Fujian Province Returned Overseas Chinese Federation, the exhibition is jointly organized by the Chen Jiageng Memorial Hall, the China Overseas Chinese History Museum, and the Yan’an Revolutionary Memorial Hall, and will run until February 16, 2025.
