Shanxi food and drug supervision has been upgraded again. Since this year, 6,715 food illegal cases have been investigated and handled.

Since the beginning of 2024, Shanxi Province has significantly enhanced its food safety efforts, intensifying regulatory oversight throughout the entire process. To date, authorities have investigated 6,715 food-related law violations and cracked 364 criminal cases involving food safety, achieving a compliance rate of over 99% in their inspections.

On October 16, the nationwide Food Safety Awareness Week (Shanxi) and a media roundtable discussion on food safety were held in Taiyuan.

During the meeting, Ju Zhen, Director of the Shanxi Provincial Food and Drug Safety Office and Secretary of the Provincial Market Supervision Administration, emphasized the importance of food safety, stating, “Food safety is directly related to the daily meals of our citizens. It underpins their sense of gain, happiness, and security. Ensuring food safety is not just our responsibility; it is a relentless pursuit.”

This year, Shanxi has strengthened the foundation of “two responsibilities” by implementing various special actions and continuing to ramp up regulatory enforcement. The province is also working on improving food safety systems by establishing a Food and Drug Safety Committee and introducing multiple policy documents to foster collaborative governance. They have hosted 29 targeted activities, provided precise support to 855 food production entities, and successfully established national model cities for food safety as well as counties recognized for agricultural product quality. Additionally, a series of premium-quality “Jin” branded products has been developed, resulting in a stable and positive food safety situation across the province, with no major food safety incidents reported.

However, the prevalence of various food safety rumors poses a challenge, misleading public understanding and adversely affecting the healthy development of the food industry and public safety. In response, the Shanxi Provincial Food and Drug Safety Office has collaborated with several media outlets to issue a “Media Cooperation Initiative for the Governance of Food Safety Rumors,” aiming to build a robust social consensus to resist and jointly manage food safety rumors, thereby enhancing the image of food health in Shanxi.
