Lyrics exhibition by Hong Kong talent Huang Zhan debuts in Taiyuan, Shanxi

In an effort to commemorate the 20th anniversary of lyricist Hong Zhan’s passing, the “Hello, World” exhibition featuring his iconic lyrics opened on October 17 in Taiyuan, Shanxi. Running until November 16, the exhibition transforms the pedestrian streets of Zhonglou into a tribute to the Hong Kong talent, showcasing selected lines from his classic songs throughout various corners of the area.

On the opening day, attendees in Taiyuan marveled at the displayed lyrics from beloved songs like “A Man Should Be Strong” and “A Laugh from the Sea.” At the East Plaza, in addition to lyrics from “Shanghai Bund” and “Under the Lion Rock,” a specially invited band performed over a dozen of Hong Zhan’s timeless compositions.

The flourishing of Hong Kong pop culture during the 1980s and 1990s left a lasting mark on the region, with film, television, and pop music serving as significant cultural identifiers. Hong Zhan’s music resonated across the globe, especially in communities with Chinese heritage. The ten selected lyrics on display serve as a testament to Hong Kong’s cultural prosperity.

Additionally, the “Our Ten Springs, Summers, Autumns, and Winters” 2024 Hong Kong-Central China Photography Competition culminated in an award ceremony on October 17, where 54 outstanding photographs were honored after a rigorous selection process. The event took place in Taiyuan, with certificates and prizes awarded to winners from Shanxi Province.

Guo Weixun, director of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan, emphasized Hong Zhan’s patriotic spirit embedded in his songs. He expressed hope that the exhibition would evoke fond memories of the late lyricist while inviting visitors to appreciate Hong’s artistic journey.

This exhibition is collaboratively organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan, the Hong Kong Affairs Office of the Shanxi Provincial Government, and the Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao Affairs Office of the Taiyuan Municipal Government.
