Foreign media- Fighting between criminal groups in southern Mexico leaves 16 dead

On October 25, according to Reuters, Mexican authorities reported that a shootout between two criminal groups in Guerrero state resulted in 16 fatalities.

The incident occurred around 5 AM in the town of Tepantla, which has become a battleground for crime syndicates vying for territory in recent years.

The Mexican Ministry of Defense stated that local police were involved in the gunfight, leading to the deaths of two officers and injuries to four others. The injured are currently stable following medical treatment.

Additionally, the Ministry mentioned that the nearby National Guard also responded to the shootout, with three officers sustaining injuries.

Reports indicate that the other 14 deceased individuals are believed to be members of the criminal groups, and 11 individuals were taken into custody.

The security situation in Guerrero state has significantly deteriorated recently. On October 6, Alejandro Acosta, the mayor of the state capital Chilpancingo, was confirmed murdered, just days after taking office.
