In a recent letter addressed to all faculty, students, and alumni of Ocean University of China, General Secretary of the Communist Party, President, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, Xi Jinping, celebrated the university’s 100th anniversary.
Xi highlighted the importance of using this milestone as a new starting point. He urged the university community to align their efforts with national strategic needs and technological advancements. Emphasizing the need for an improved academic structure and talent development model, he called for a focus on innovative and leading marine science and technology initiatives. His vision is for Ocean University to cultivate exceptional talents who are passionate about marine aspirations and capable of meeting the challenges of our times, ultimately contributing to the country’s educational and maritime strength.
Founded in 1924 and originally known as Private Qingdao University, Ocean University of China was renamed in 2002. In their recent correspondence with President Xi, the university’s faculty and students expressed pride in their century-long journey and reiterated their commitment to supporting the development of a strong maritime nation and contributing to China’s overall progress and national rejuvenation.
