On October 16, the 2024 Shooting World Cup Final in New Delhi, India, entered its second day of competition. The Chinese team, which secured three gold medals on the first day, added another gold to their tally, with veteran shooter Li Yuehong powering his way to victory in the men’s 25-meter rapid fire pistol event.
In the final, Li showcased remarkable performance, hitting all of his first 25 shots in the initial five rounds. He maintained his momentum in the final three rounds, scoring three hits each time and ultimately finishing with a total of 34 hits to clinch the gold medal. At 35 years old, Li has now completed his collection of gold medals from the Olympics, World Championships, and World Cup Finals. He also holds the world record for the finals with 39 hits out of 40 shots.
After the competition, Li Yuehong shared his thoughts, saying that the past three years have been incredibly fruitful for him, as he has captured titles in significant events. He expressed his intention to pass on his experience to younger team members in the future. German shooter Peter finished in second place with 30 hits, while fellow Chinese athlete Wang Xinjie took home the bronze.
Meanwhile, Liu Yukun, the champion in the men’s 50-meter rifle three positions at the Paris Olympics, was recently named the International Shooting Sport Federation’s Male Athlete of the Year. However, he faced tough competition and finished fourth in today’s event, with Hungary’s Istvan Penyi claiming the top spot. Chinese youth Han Jiayu secured the bronze in the women’s 50-meter rifle three positions, while Denmark’s Rik Eibsen won the gold.
With all eight pistol events concluded, the Chinese team currently stands at the top of the medal table with a total of four golds and three bronzes. Looking ahead, competition in the shotgun events will take place on the 17th.
