In a recent interview with international officials and experts visiting China, they expressed their admiration for China’s approach to modernization, which they believe sets a valuable example for other multi-ethnic nations. As China celebrates the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic, these leaders highlighted the significant contributions of China’s unique path to modernization towards global prosperity.
**”National Unity is the Prerequisite for Common Prosperity”**
A key theme in their discussions was China’s successful policies aimed at fostering ethnic unity and social stability. Tillabaev Mirzatillo, Deputy Director of the National Human Rights Center of Uzbekistan, emphasized that China’s commitment to equal rights for all ethnic groups has provided a valuable reference point for other multi-ethnic countries facing similar challenges.
He noted that this unity not only promotes stability and development within China but also offers an effective model for the international community grappling with ethnic integration issues. The collaborative spirit and mutual understanding among diverse ethnic groups in China have cultivated a harmonious environment essential for economic growth and social progress.
Audace Mudahemuka, a national coordinator for a student survivor organization from the Rwandan genocide, reflected on his country’s painful history and the importance of unity in national development. He traced the roots of the 1994 genocide to deep-seated ethnic tensions and societal division, noting that China’s policies of inclusiveness empower all ethnic groups to contribute to the country’s modernization efforts. “China’s modernization is one that leaves no one behind,” Mudahemuka asserted, highlighting the critical role of unity among ethnic groups in fostering a prosperous society.
**”China’s Development is an Opportunity for the World”**
The accomplishments of China’s modernization are evident in several areas, including technological advances, infrastructure development, and environmental protection. Souad Chaqri, the Director of Auditing at Morocco’s House of Representatives, was struck by China’s rapid technological development. After spending more than a month learning in China, she remarked, “There’s no need for cash; a simple scan with WeChat or Alipay suffices everywhere. The innovations in smart cities, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy are truly impressive.”
Additionally, Raziah Athman, a senior editor at Uganda’s New Vision newspaper, expressed her delight at the opportunity to learn from China. She aimed to understand “China’s approach” better and share effective practices with Uganda upon her return. Athman was surprised by some misconceptions she encountered abroad, particularly the belief that China focuses solely on infrastructure while neglecting environmental protection. However, her observations revealed a balanced approach that successfully integrates development, innovation, and ecological stewardship.
As a media professional, Athman also noted the spread of misinformation by some Western media regarding China-Africa cooperation. She highlighted that the partnership between China and countries like Uganda is built on mutual respect and non-interference in domestic affairs, contrasting it with the conditional aid often offered by Western nations.
Discussing the potential for China-Uganda cooperation, Athman highlighted vast opportunities in policy communication, infrastructure connectivity, trade facilitation, financial integration, and people-to-people ties, all crucial components of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Rupak Sapkota, a former foreign affairs advisor to Nepal’s Prime Minister, also noted that many developing countries have benefited from the Belt and Road Initiative since its inception. “China’s development has catalyzed progress in other countries, enabling them to share in its opportunities for growth,” he stated. Looking ahead, Sapkota underscored the potential for deeper collaboration between Nepal and China, especially in trade, cultural exchange, infrastructure, and energy.
Through these insights, it becomes evident that China’s modernization not only aims to elevate its citizens but also seeks to foster global cooperation and mutual prosperity.
