On October 17, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to discuss measures to promote a stable and healthy development of the real estate market. Ni Hong, the Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, highlighted that China’s housing development has entered a new phase, shifting focus from simply providing housing to ensuring its quality. He emphasized the importance of building “good houses” in affordable housing projects and finding ways to renovate older homes into “good houses.”
According to Ni, a “good house” embodies four key characteristics: First, it must be green, ensuring that residents live in a healthy and comfortable environment, with health and comfort being the most vital aspects of sustainability. Second, it should be low-carbon, meaning that throughout its lifecycle, the house should help residents save on expenses related to electricity, water, and energy, while also contributing to social energy savings. Third, the house needs to be smart, using modern technology and digital solutions to enhance convenience for residents. Lastly, it must ensure safety, providing peace of mind to its inhabitants.
To advance the construction of “good houses,” the focus will be on establishing models, setting standards, building systems, and enhancing technology. Most critically, the integration of a new generation of information technology, green and low-carbon technologies, innovative construction methods, as well as new products, materials, and processes will be essential to promote the development of “good houses” in various sizes and price ranges.
Ni stressed that local governments should prioritize the development of affordable housing into “good houses,” especially highlighting the need for government-led initiatives and projects that resonate with the community’s welfare. Additionally, he urged efforts to work on urban renewal, finding methods to transform old houses into “good houses” as well.
For real estate and construction companies, the future hinges on high quality, innovative technology, and excellent service. Those who can seize opportunities for transformation, build “good houses,” and provide outstanding services will find their place in the market and ensure a sustainable future.
