The Kansas City Chiefs are excited about their new rookie, Xavier Worthy, who has already made a name for himself with an impressive 40-yard dash time of 4.21 seconds. In the season opener against a strong Ravens defense, Worthy didn’t disappoint. Building on the Chiefs’ reputation for an athletic and fast-paced offense, he scored a touchdown both on the ground and through the air, showcasing his versatility.
Worthy’s first touchdown came from a reverse play that caught the Ravens’ defense off guard, as he accelerated past them, earning rave reviews from many stars on social media. Initially, there was speculation that Mecole Hardman would execute a similar play, but Worthy stepped up exceptionally well. While Hardman didn’t record any receptions in the game, he did return a kick for 29 yards, contributing to the team’s special teams.
In terms of receiving, Worthy demonstrated his speed by racing across the field to make a catch, with one of his touchdowns coming from a tactical error made by the opposing cornerback and safety. Unfortunately, fans didn’t get to see a direct face-off between him and a defender, but early indications from the preseason suggest that Patrick Mahomes and the coaching staff are eager to utilize Worthy for more deep passes, with some success already noted.
This opens up the possibility that Worthy could take on the long-range threat role previously held by Marquez Valdes-Scantling, allowing the Chiefs to test their opponents’ defenses with deep throws now and then.
If Worthy can blend the capabilities of both Hardman and Valdes-Scantling, along with the reliable mid-range catching and advancing skills of Rashee Rice, the Chiefs could alleviate some of their uncertainty at the wide receiver position and reduce their over-reliance on Travis Kelce.
