On the evening of October 21, a tropical depression formed east of the Philippines. The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Station has reported that this depression is expected to enter the northeastern part of the South China Sea on October 24, and its path will direct it toward the eastern coast of Hainan Island and the western coast of Guangdong by October 26.
Previously classified as a tropical disturbance located off the eastern coast of the Philippines, this system strengthened into a tropical depression on the evening of the 21st. At 5 PM, its center was located at 13.1 degrees North and 129.6 degrees East, approximately 950 kilometers east of Manila, Philippines. The maximum wind speed near the center reached 7 on the Beaufort scale (15 m/s), with a central pressure of 1000 hPa.
Meteorological forecasts indicate that the tropical depression will move northwest at a speed of 5-10 kilometers per hour, likely intensifying into a typhoon within the next 12 hours as it crosses the island of Luzon in the Philippines. By October 24, it will enter the northeastern South China Sea, with potential peak intensity classified as a strong typhoon, before heading toward the coastal areas from eastern Hainan Island to western Guangdong by October 26.
According to the Hainan Provincial Meteorological Station, the influence of this system will lead to increasing winds from east to west, reaching 8 to 11 on the Beaufort scale in the eastern and northern parts of the South China Sea, the waters near the Zhongsha and Xisha Islands, and the eastern sea areas of Hainan Island from October 23 to 26. Wind gusts could reach up to 12, with rotational winds near the typhoon’s center reaching levels between 13 and 14.
