On the evening of October 27, during the seventh round of the 2024-2025 China Men’s Basketball Association (CBA) regular season held in Changchun, the Beijing Beikong faced off against the Jilin Northeast Tigers. The game ended with Beijing Beikong suffering their first loss of the season, breaking their six-game winning streak.
Before this match, Beijing Beikong had established themselves as the only unbeaten team in the league, boasting a record of six wins. Conversely, the Jilin Northeast Tigers entered the game with a more balanced record of three wins and three losses. Notably, Beijing’s star player, Zhou Qi, was absent from the lineup.
Both teams played with a deliberate pace and focused heavily on defense, which kept the scoring relatively low. In the first quarter, both teams matched each other’s intensity. However, in the second quarter, Beijing Beikong managed to gain a slight edge, starting with a 9-2 run. Nevertheless, the Jilin team capitalized on defensive rebounds to score and by halftime, Beijing held a narrow lead of 39-35.
As the game progressed into the second half, the Jilin Northeast Tigers, led by their foreign player Jones, sparked a strong comeback. Particularly in the third quarter, Jones delivered an impressive performance, scoring 15 points while also contributing four rebounds, two assists, and one block, helping his team reclaim the lead. This momentum carried into the fourth quarter, culminating in a 96-86 victory for the Jilin team.
Post-game, Jilin’s head coach Zhong Cheng expressed his satisfaction with the team’s defensive effort. He noted that the players showed high levels of energy and pressure on defense, and he considered this to be their best performance of the season, especially given that they sustained this level of intensity throughout the entire game.
As it stands, Beijing Beikong now shares a record of 6-1 with Shanxi Fenjiu, Liaoning Bengang, and Zhejiang Fangxingdu.
