-Friends Come from Afar- Concert Opens Beijing CBD Music Season

On the evening of October 21, a captivating concert titled “A Night to Hear and Feel the Charm of Beijing’s Global CBD” took place in Beijing, showcasing the talents of renowned traditional suona player Zhang Qianyuan, violinist Chen Xi, conductor Sun Ying, and the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, they created an unforgettable audio-visual experience for guests from around the world.

The concert marked the opening of the “Beijing CBD Music Season,” beginning with an electrifying performance of “Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix.” Zhang Qianyuan’s extraordinary skill brought the traditional suona to life, resembling a choir of birds welcoming visitors from afar with a passionate melody.

Following that, violinist Chen Xi delivered a heartfelt rendition of “Butterfly Lovers,” a timeless love story that resonates across cultures. The harmonious blend of Eastern and Western instruments allowed the audience to traverse time, feeling the cultural resonance and interplay of different musical traditions.

The atmosphere peaked with a lively performance of the “Csárdás,” a classic dance originating from Hungary. Under the precise direction of conductor Sun Ying, the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra delivered a performance that was both exhilarating and delicate, showcasing the unique charm of European folk music. The musicians seemed to weave together diverse musical elements from various regions, creating a vibrant tapestry of sound.

Among the notable attendees was internationally acclaimed violin maker Simon Morawski, president of the International Violin and Bow Makers Association (EILA), who presented two exquisite violins he crafted himself. He engaged with attendees, sharing insights and experiences in the art of violin making.

“Beijing CBD Music Season is a collaborative urban music brand established by the Beijing Central Business District Management Committee and Xiyou Music,” explained Liu Yimin, head of the CBD Music Season. “The aim is to spread the seeds of music throughout this area, infusing the towering buildings with the rhythms of life and the pulse of the city.”

This concert is part of the “Music Integration, Cultural Resonance” series within the Beijing CBD Music Season. It seeks to enhance international communication and cultural openness through music. The event also featured an intangible cultural heritage music experience area and a CBD image exhibition, immersively showcasing the achievements of development in Beijing CBD over the past thirty years and its “Five Suitables” (livable, suitable for work, business-friendly, educational, and tourist-friendly) international profile.
