On October 14, during an interview with a representative from Guangzhou Customs, it was revealed that the 136th China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, is set to kick off in Guangzhou on October 15. As the event approaches, there has been a significant increase in passenger and cargo arrivals at various ports in Guangzhou.
According to statistics from Guangzhou Customs, the average number of inbound travelers at the Guangzhou port has exceeded 23,000 per day since the beginning of October, with an average of about 157 inbound flights daily. These figures reflect year-on-year increases of around 44% and 32%, respectively. Additionally, the cargo volume imported through Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has surpassed 17,400 tons since September, marking a growth of approximately 22%. To date, 123,000 overseas buyers from 203 countries and regions have pre-registered for the fair.
A spokesperson from the passenger inspection section of the Baiyun International Airport Customs shared that in the past week alone, customs has monitored over 1,100 inbound flights carrying approximately 169,000 passengers. The majority of these flights have originated from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Both T1 and T2 terminals have set up expedited channels for Canton Fair attendees, allowing registered participants to quickly complete customs procedures for luggage declaration, ATA carnets, and inspections by presenting valid identification or invitation letters.
Additionally, the Pazhou Port, located just 100 meters from the fairgrounds, has also experienced a surge in inbound traffic, with many international exhibitors and buyers choosing this entry point to access the fair.
To facilitate the smooth customs clearance of exhibits, Guangzhou Customs has implemented 20 specific measures aimed at ensuring efficient entry for imported food, cosmetics, and medical devices. As of October 13, customs has already supervised over 80 batches of exhibits for the 136th Canton Fair, with a total value exceeding 4.5 million RMB. The major items include home appliances, building materials, and furniture from exhibitors in countries such as Egypt, Thailand, and Greece.
