In a notable move to bolster local tech initiatives, Ibom Air has teamed up with the Ibom Innovation Network and various sponsors to support tech startups in developing innovative solutions for the aviation sector. This partnership aligns with the launch of the 2024 Innovation Challenge during Akwa Ibom Tech Week, aiming to create local solutions for urgent challenges facing Nigeria’s diverse economy.
During a recent webinar hosted by the Ibom Innovation Network, Stanley Igwe, the Group Manager of ICT at Ibom Air, stressed the critical role of innovation in enhancing the passenger experience. He shared the airline’s keen interest in solutions that make boarding easier for passengers with disabilities. “Ibom Air represents one of the state’s flagship initiatives, and we take pride in positioning ourselves as a world-class team. Our commitment to innovation is authentic,” Igwe remarked. “One of our significant challenges is ensuring that passengers with mobility impairments can board our aircraft with ease. We are excited for tech startups to help us develop effective solutions.”
Aniekan Essienette, the General Manager of Marketing and Communications for Ibom Air, also spoke at the event, introducing the Ibom Air Prize for Innovation. He highlighted the airline’s ambition to lead the Nigerian aviation sector through homegrown innovations, reinforcing its support for the Akwa Ibom Tech Week Innovation Challenge.
Emphasizing the importance of the Innovation Challenge, Hanson Johnson, President of the Ibom Innovation Network, stated, “The Akwa Ibom Tech Week 2024 Innovation Challenge is crafted to bring together our brightest talents in addressing real-world issues, ultimately fostering a robust ecosystem for innovation. This initiative showcases our commitment to empowering young people, driving economic growth, and establishing Akwa Ibom as a premier tech hub in Africa.”
