In a recent social media post, director James Gunn, who is set to helm the upcoming “Superman” movie slated for a 2025 release, shared an exciting update that has comic book fans buzzing: Krypto the Superdog will make an appearance in the new film.

Gunn posted a series of visuals from the “Superman” movie on social platforms, including one image featuring Krypto sitting next to Superman, both gazing down at Earth. Another photo showcased Gunn with his pet dog, Ozu.

In his post, Gunn revealed that the character of Krypto is inspired by Ozu, whom he adopted shortly after beginning work on the Superman script.

“Ozu came from a backyard where he lived with about 60 other puppies and had never interacted with humans—he was definitely a troubled pup,” Gunn recounted. “As soon as he arrived at our home, he started causing chaos. Our shoes and furniture took a hit, and he even chewed on my laptop. It took a long time for him to let us touch him.”

Gunn also reflected on the potential mischief Ozu might cause if he had superpowers, which ultimately led to the decision to include Krypto in the script. “Krypto changed the story just like Ozu changed my life,” he noted.

Additionally, Gunn pointed out that his post coincides with National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, celebrated every October.

The “Superman” film will star David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the iconic villain Lex Luthor.
