As the 12th National Representative Assembly of the Red Cross Society of China commenced on October 9, General Secretary of the Communist Party, President, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xi Jinping sent a letter to the assembly, extending his heartfelt greetings to all Red Cross workers, members, and volunteers across the nation. He also expressed his hopes for the future of Red Cross endeavors.

In his letter, Xi highlighted the Red Cross Society as a crucial link between the party, government, and the public in humanitarian efforts. He urged the organization to uphold the party’s comprehensive leadership, focus on high-quality development, and deepen reforms and innovations. Xi emphasized the need to enhance their political relevance, advance service capabilities, strengthen credibility, and actively contribute to international humanitarian initiatives. He called for a renewed and greater contribution towards achieving national strength, rejuvenating the nation, and promoting global peace and progress through modernization with Chinese characteristics.

Moreover, Xi reinforced the importance of local party committees and governments in supporting and guiding Red Cross work, ensuring a conducive environment for the organization to fulfill its legal responsibilities. He encouraged all Red Cross workers, members, and volunteers to remember their original mission, embrace their responsibilities, and strive diligently to write a new chapter of high-quality development for the Chinese Red Cross.

The opening ceremony of the assembly was attended by Vice President Han Zheng, who also met with all the representatives present. Liu Guozhong, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, delivered a speech on behalf of the Central Committee and the State Council. He noted the significant achievements made under the strong leadership of the Central Committee since the 11th National Representative Assembly. Liu emphasized the importance of deepening the implementation of Xi Jinping’s thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for the new era, ensuring the right political direction, and enhancing the essential work of the Red Cross.

The assembly also featured speeches from representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Xu Liuping, the first secretary of the Secretariat of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, represented the mass organizations. Additionally, the meeting recognized 32 advanced collectives and 10 outstanding workers within the national Red Cross system.
